Eagles!

Last Monday, we spent the President's Day Holiday mostly catching up on sleep, house stuff, and laundry, but we also took an hour and drove out to Farmington Bay to see the migratory bald eagles. Last year, we must have gone later in the season because there was no ice and most of the birds were in the trees and grasses along the road. This year, because the bay was mostly frozen over, the eagles were clustered along the breaks in the ice looking for food. It was especially fun to see them spread their wings and take off and watch them soar over our heads. Unfortunately, my digital camera lacks the ability to take "action shots" and we missed most of our opportunities for good shots. However, these pictures at least show how many eagles there were, even if you can't capture the scale of the birds in a photo.

We frequently see the eagles above our house as they scan the foothills of the mountains for some food. One night last summer, I got up in the night and looked out the window to see a large dark object swoop down, make some ruffling sounds and there were some squeals, then it took off. I claimed it was an eagle coming down to catch what sounded like a cat, but the kids thought that was uproariously funny and still tease me about today.
