2009 Poinsettia Bowl

The University of Utah football team was selected to go the the Poinsettia Bowl. (Classless people get to go to San Diego and stay at a waterfront hotel on Mission Bay only 1.5 blocks from the Pacific Ocean. People with class go to Las Vegas). As a member of the Marching Band, Sara also went to San Diego (albeit on a chartered bus), but also went to Sea World, the USS Midway, etc. and had free time to go to the gaslight district, seaport village, etc. And true to herself, she even came home with $25 of leftover per diem money.

Taken from a web cam on a downtown San Diego skyrise while Sara was on the ship. Yeah. One of those people is probably her.

But the highlight of the game (besides winning) was her ability to draw attention to herself on national television. You may recall at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans last year, Sara caught the eye of the camera man and had more than a few closeup shots. This year, while she didn't get a closeup, she did catch some screen attention by getting hit with the game ball after a throw-away pass just as the quarterback was about to get sacked. The band was lined up on the sideline just behind the football team because it was right before their half time show. Since she couldn't see the game over the top of the football team in front of them, she didn't even see it coming at her.

And this was her take-home souvenir.

That girl is destined for fame. The next step, I suggest she takes to further her career, would be reality TV -- "Behind the Football (or occasionally hit with it) -- the Marching Band-ees." Or, well, she could write a memoir and work on tweeking the title from the above.
