Let the Games begin!

I love the Olympics! About 10 years ago, we started a tradition of having a host country-themed dinner on the night of the Opening Ceremonies. For the Vancouver Olympics, it took some thought and research (What is distinctively Canadian food??), but I finally settled on maple-glazed salmon with rice and vegetables. For an added Canadian flare, I added some sliced French Bread (hey, they speak French in Quebec, right?) and I made a stencil of the Canadian maple leaf and used it to sprinkle paprika on the bread. It was better in concept than in execution....you really couldn't tell what it was. But the thought was there. We also had bowls of Whoppers and Milk Duds labelled as "Moose Droppings" and "Deer Droppings". I made some maple seafoam candy as well. I loved watching the ceremonies with everyone here (well, Becky, Daniel and Anna got bored and wandered off), but Sara and Ryan hung around.

Here's a few shots of the food:

Maple-glazed Salmon (It was DELICIOUS!) Even Becky, who doesn't really like salmon, said it was the best she's ever had.

Quebec bread with maple-leaf stencil

Vegetables and Rice (Nothing Canadian about this.)
