Back by Popular Demand: Corn Grows 2010

Never has a blog post series received more acclamation or disdain; nevertheless, here goes Corn Grows 2010.

Last year, I planted the corn according to the package directions, but it seemed to be planted much further apart than I noticed in some of the farm fields around here, so this year, I planted the rows closer and spaced each stalk much closer. Its a bit of an experiment, along with cutting an individual hole in the weed fabric for each stalk. It was time consuming, but I'm hopeful it will cut down on the weeds.

We also planted peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and beans. Hopefully that will be enough to make up for our lack of pears and apples this year.

A shot of the fish pond, waterfall and some of the spring flowers. I love this time of year.

Hmm. What are those flowers in the background with reddish or pinkish things on them. Maybe I need some.

AND, I am so excited for this corn season . . . last season ended at the most exciting part and I have been dying to know what will happen next with the corn. I guess we can be pretty certain that the awkward relationship between the corn and the pears won't continue -- which is ashame -- they had such chemistry. Oh, and the betrayal and lies going on between the separate cobs last year . . . whew. I can hardly wait.
