For Mother’s Day, I wanted to pay tribute to Becky and all of the wonderful things she does for our family and her students. A couple of highlights:
· She cuts my hair, even though she doesn’t like to. (I like it because its very relaxing and she takes a really long time doing it.)
· Immediately upon seeing her in any prone position, any one of her kids promptly puts their back or their head up to her and says, “Scratch my back, Mom.” or “Scratch my head, Mom.”, which she immediately does.
· She makes a mean pot of Taco Soup.
· She is able to immediately respond to Sara or Daniel at 6 am after waking from a deep sleep, to “Mom! Where’s my pants!” (In Sara’s case, its more like, “MOM! I don’t have any PANTS!”)
· She has single-handedly turned the ESL program at her Jr. High into a productive program that gets results, prompting her principal to tell her, “No one else has done anything close with this program like you have done.”
· With her help, for the first time, a huge number of ESL students improved their grades this past semester. (And we’re talking about students who are more interested in their gang friends than doing anything at school.)
· She talked one of her gang students into staying for the rest of the school year.
· Has an open door policy at lunchtime and her room is often filled with students that come in to spend time with her. I think it is because she has genuine love and respect for them, and they can feel it.
· Was asked by a couple of her 9th grade Spanish 3 boys what her full name was, then they kneeled down on one knee and extending a ring pop, said, “Rebecca Lee H**** S*****, will you be our 10th grade Spanish Teacher?”
· Befriended a student that was despised by all of the other teachers for being a smart alec and goofball, and became his favorite teacher and inspired him to work hard, becoming the 9th grade honors student for Foreign Language (much to the chagrin of all of the other teachers who only could see his goofball side. She was able to look over that, and find a real person who made her laugh.

I'm so glad you think she's great. I think so too! I'm especially proud of how she can relate to her ESL students and treat them with such respect and motivate them--and have fun with them too.
Ohhh!! I love Becky! This post made me love her all the more, because I suspected all this about her and her teaching, but of course she would never say it, and now I know it is true! I especially loved the ring pop story. Oh Becky, you are my new favorite (don't tell anyone else).
Well, I have been waiting for literally months for a new post and this was a perfect way to start up again! Becky, thank you for being such a wonderful person! I admire you for many reasons - many new ones now - and for mostly handling the challenge of being the only sister-in-law a family laden with emotional women!
Have a Happy Mother's Day and know that I love you so very much and am so glad that my brother has such a lovely lady as you!
