Fourth of July

We had a fun Fourth of July this year. We started out by driving to North Ogden to see the Cherry Days parade. We aren't big parade-goers...especially in 100+ degree heat. However, my mother-in-law Gayle was an entry in the parade for being Weber County Mother of the Year. Al was kind enough to save us some seats under the trees where Willey's used to live. I had my video camera all ready to go and when I turned it on, I realized it was completely out of battery power. So I had to revert to the video option on my digital camera. It didn't come out great, but you can see Gayle and the Ogden City Mother of the Year (who also went on to win the State title).

We joked with Gayle that we wanted to pin a sign to the back of her shirt saying "I should have won State!" (Which she should have.)

Anna was especially excited that the Cherry Days parade entries throw a lot more candy than the one where we live. She acquired a pretty good stash of candy. Sara and Daniel suddenly became her best friends.

After the Cherry Days parade, we rushed home to get Daniel to work at his new donut-sweeping job. My parents came over for hamburgers, croquet in the back yard, homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream, and fireworks. It was very HOT! Over 102 degrees. You can read more about it here at Blog of Bobs. (Apparently, Grandpa Bob is armed and ready to keep Nacho in his place.) ;)

Poor Daniel...when he got to work there was a note from the 2nd worker that was supposed to show up saying that he had to leave and wanted Daniel to do the FULL cleanup. It took him over 7 hours to finish both jobs. I thought that was a pretty rotten trick to pull on him--especially on a holiday! We saved him some food and then lit the fireworks out in front of the house. (Our $9 box from Walmart paled in comparison to the neighbors who go all out for the 4th and 24th).

Oh how my kids would have liked to see their own grandma in the parade . . . of course they would want her to throw them candy as they think all parade folks should.

I didn't know Gayle was Mother of the Year - I mean, I knew she could have given all her many talents and wisdoms - but I didn't KNOW she was official. ANd yes, she should have won state!

Poor D - nothing says stinky job more than working almost full time doing someone else's dirty work! My heart feels for him. He should get a raise!
