Well, a summer of well-documented corn growth has come to an end (at least the first picking). I have to say that it was the absolute best tasting corn I have ever had. It reminded me of summers when I was young and one of my favorite days was the day that my Mom would "can" corn. Tony "the vegetable man" (a man that would drive daily around the city with a pickup truck filled with vegetables and fruits and stop in each neighborhood and ring the doorbells for people to come out and buy) dropped off several gunny sacks filled with ears of corn. It was always our job to husk the corn. It seemed like it would take hours. Once the corn was husked, Mom would cook the corn and then my older sisters and mom (and sometimes Grandma Kate) would cut the corn off the cobs and put it into bags to freeze. But the best part of the whole morning was the anticipation of lunch: nothing but corn on the cob. It always tasted so good. That's how this corn tasted. I've learned a lot about growing corn and next year, it will be better. Rest assured, it will be well documented so you can see it for yourself.
P.S. The recycling center has closed. I guess too many people were doing it the WRONG way!

All I wanted was to harvest some corn before we left! It's all I wanted. We planted ours a good week or two before yours and it is only barely showing signs of little tiny cobs. Our tomatoes aren't even ripe. Produce Shmoduce.
I had totally forgetten about Tony the vegetable guy ... for some reason I always thought that we got our dog Tony from him too. Actually I think our dog Tony died about the same time that the veggie Tony guy came around and that might be why I associate them with each other.
I remember too looking forward to lunching on hot, buttery corn on the cob on 'corn day' or 'carn day' if Grandma Kate was around. I also remember when you grew the popcorn variety of corn and thinking that was cool. You were always so willing to try new things - even if the popcorn didn't pop as well as Orville Reddenbachers.
Well done, thou good and faithful corn grower.
Oh, I will miss my trusted weekly corn update. What will I check now...the weather???
i will miss the corn documentation. i wish i had some of your delicious corn. next year give good tips and maybe i can plant my own.
The second sentence of this post sounded like the cooking shows we watch on Saturday mornings... "That was the best corn I've EVER tasted! Mmmm. I am such a good corn grower!" Just thought you ought to know...
Oh great. Now I'm craving corn on the cob. And here I am with no oil in my lamp so to speak. :D
I recall husking corn with much trepidation of the caterpillars u would throw on me. Thanks for that! Lol
